Hello Vibha, thank you so much for taking the time out to talk to me. 🙂 First things first: how did you take up writing?
Thanks a lot, Aniesha!
Like most things in life, I blame it on my genes! My late grandfather, Shri Vishnu Kant Shastri was an academic, Sanskrit scholar, and prolific writer.
What was your very first attempt at creative writing?
When my grandfather passed away, I decided to translate his book on the Ishaavaasya Upanishad into English. So I did what all those self-help books ask us to do. Announced my goal to the whole wide world. And it worked! Every time I fell off the bandwagon, I’d have family, colleagues and friends come up and ask me, “So, what happened to that book you were supposed to translate?”
Where did you get the ideas for your stories?
It’s something I’ve been asking myself all these years. They just do!
What in particular gave you the idea for Glitter and Gloss?
I’d just finished writing my first romance novel The Activist and The Capitalist. And the withdrawal symptoms – shudder – they were severe. So like any addict, I decided to get my fix. And lo, Glitter and Gloss came about!
Do you have particular schedules or writing routines when it comes to your work?
I wish! I write whenever and wherever I can. (Shoutout to all the kind folk at the workplace!)
A lot of authors are taking the indie publishing route. What’s your view about it?
To each his/her own. Have at it, I say!
If your story got turned into a movie, who would you like to see star as leads?
Oooh, now we are talking! Fawad Khan (hello, controversy) and Kangana Ranaut (ditto!)
What are your future plans for writing? Can you give out a teaser or two for your readers?
Teaser? How about the entire movie! Another romcom is just out. It’s available exclusively on the juggernaut.in app and website. Go. Download. Now. Thank you very much.
Do you have any particular authors who inspire your work?
My all time favourite authors / poets are my grandfather, Bill Bryson, PG Wodehouse, Sophie Kinsella, Ogden Nash, Ghalib, Rumi, Jagdish Gupt, Shiv Om Amber, Harivansh Rai Bachchan. I really do hope they inspire my work.
What would your advice be to aspiring authors?
I’m not a fan of unsolicited advice. So I’d say “Never to give or take any.”
What would be an ideal gift for you?
Remembering my birthday. With no help from FB. Ha! 😀
And finally, if there was a book you could turn into a movie, what would it be and why?
Glitter and Gloss AND Ludhiana to London. #HumbleBrag
Thank you once again for talking to BUZZ Magazine. I wish you all the best with your current work and future works.
